Atherton council approves roughly $1.2M contract for Hobart Park playground replacement

The Atherton Town Council approved a service contract on Nov. 19 to replace the playground at Hobart Park.
Public works staff said the project used an Omnia Partners cooperative procurement and showed a contractor estimate of approximately $1,200,000 with a contingency of about 10% (roughly $125,000). Staff reported the design is about 90% complete and that construction activities, including demo and curb work, are expected to take roughly 2–3 months with a target to start in late February or March so the project could be completed before the summer school break.
Council members asked for clarification about signage packages and the number and type of swings; staff explained accessibility constraints and confirmed the new design includes approximately six swings across the tot and larger play areas. Council moved and approved the contract by roll call.
The contract award directs the public works department to finalize the agreement, obtain building permits and begin construction according to the approved schedule. Staff said they will provide final design documents to the council and post project updates to town communications.
