Atherton library manager presents San Mateo County Libraries’ FY24–25 annual report

Ginny Meese, manager of the Atherton Library, presented San Mateo County Libraries’ fiscal year 2024–25 annual report to the Atherton Town Council on Nov. 19.
Meese said the system recorded roughly 1,700,000 visitors, circulated about 2,400,000 items and hosted more than 11,600 programs across its 13 libraries in the county. She described a new five‑year strategic plan — focused on listening, connecting, discovering and engaging — and highlighted service expansions including thousands of new cardholders and a large increase in hotspot checkouts.
“Each of our staff brings unique backgrounds and experiences to the library,” Meese said, calling the staff’s diversity a strength for outreach and culturally responsive programming. She noted local activities such as a June author talk on the Atherton Library deck that drew 104 attendees and distribution of 300 giveaway copies of the author’s book across county libraries.
Meese thanked the Friends of the Atherton Library and town staff for their support and noted an ongoing challenge with parking at the facility. The Friends’ chair, Christine David, submitted a written comment that was read into the record praising the library staff and facilities while acknowledging parking limitations.
Council members thanked Meese and the Friends group for the presentation. No action was required; the report was entered as a departmental written report and discussed during the meeting.
The council’s packet includes the full FY24–25 statistics and the new strategic‑plan summary; staff said they will continue to coordinate with the Friends and town departments on outreach and service adjustments.
