The Needham Contributory Retirement System Board voted Dec. 17 to approve its proposed 2026 operating budget and several routine financial items, while directing staff to correct one projected 2025 figure in the public packet.
Board members seconded and approved a motion to table the November meeting minutes so staff could revise them to capture substantive discussion. The board then approved corrected membership changes and an expense warrant that the chair said totaled $145,547.13. The board also voted to accept the payroll for November as presented and took a roll-call vote on the 2026 draft budget.
In discussion before the budget vote, members pressed staff for clarity about a column in the packet that mixed projected 2025 figures with actuals; staff agreed to restore the previously shown projected 2025 number and to republish the packet. The board approved the draft 2026 budget as presented (the packet references the figure as roughly $430,000 for the operating proposal) and instructed staff to finalize the public materials.
Other financial details discussed included a reported surplus entering December of about $65,000 and a non-payroll deposit account balance the chair said held approximately $8,000,000, of which roughly $1.8 million is temporarily tied to incoming checks. Board members asked staff to analyze transfers of identified excess cash to investments and to recommend timing and amounts.
The meeting closed after a moment of silence for former board member Evelyn Pines; the next meeting was set for Jan. 14, 2026 at 09:30.
