East Haven woodworking students raise funds for veterans with soldier’s‑cross project

"Our goal is to sell our product, help the community get experience in networking, and also to honor our veterans," student Cameron Foster told the board as he and classmates described prototypes including a fallen‑soldier cross, laser‑engraved cutting boards and an American flag.
Teacher Jared Fernandez said students engaged partners including the American Legion and local veterans groups to get feedback on design, pricing and marketing; the students reported $210 raised so far and a $1,000 donation target to be designated to a local veterans organization.
Students described sales at the East Haven Veterans Day event, flyer and QR‑code ordering, staff email outreach and plans to attend partner meetings for further promotion. Board members praised the students for combining practical skills, community engagement and the district’s 'vision of the graduate' attributes.
The district said information and order links will be shared in the district newsletter for community members interested in purchasing or supporting the fundraiser.
