Landers Lin, youth team leader, told the board the project is managed by youth leaders who plan, budget and run monthly outreach walks around 721 West McWilliams Avenue. "Pack of Hope is truly youth led," Joshua Pio, director of Jump Squad, said. "As youth leaders, we are responsible for planning the budget, comparing prices, and making purchase decisions for the items in each kit."
The proposal included: - Funding request: $2,000 to buy hygiene and comfort items (socks, wipes, toiletries and small comfort items) and drawstring bags for distribution. - Volunteer commitment: 104 pledged hours broken down by budgeting, packaging and distribution work; the group said that using the city's volunteer rate this represents more than $3,000 in in-kind support. - Timeline and operations: Budgeting and purchasing planned from Feb. 16–22; packaging Feb. 23–29; first distribution March 7, with two further monthly distributions in April and May. - Partnerships and match: The group plans to partner with Grace Temple Ministries for assembly and storage and said local businesses (listed in the presentation as AM Plaza, Lynn Law Group and First AQ and Herb) have pledged matching funds or supplies.
Board members asked about waste, distribution logistics and how items would be carried; presenters said kits would be placed in drawstring bags to reduce litter and make them portable. Member Lightfoot suggested city resource materials for information cards.
