The Tulare County Board of Supervisors, sitting as the Tulare Public Cemetery District, on Tuesday approved a revised job description and increased the District Manager salary range to $70,000–$100,000 to align pay with regional comparables.
The county administrative officer presented the changes, citing county and statewide survey data and telling trustees, "The public cemetery manager the average wage in our area is 93,675." The CAO said HR and consultants applied county salary principles and recommended the higher upper band to provide flexibility to attract qualified candidates and to reflect increased operational scrutiny of the district.
If the board adopts the changes, the county's human resources department will open a continuous recruitment. The CAO said the first review of applications is expected around Jan. 14 and, if needed, the recruitment would be extended to Jan. 28 with interviews anticipated in February.
Board members thanked staff for the compensation analysis and moved to approve the revised job description and salary schedule. Supervisor McCarrie moved, Supervisor Townsend seconded; the motion passed unanimously, 4–0, with Supervisor Valero absent.
Final salary placement for a selected candidate will be negotiated upon hire and is subject to final board approval.
