The Tulare County Board of Supervisors, sitting as the Tulare Public Cemetery District, accepted a report on internment counts for September through November and the fiscal year to date on Tuesday.
Shelby, the district manager, told trustees the district recorded 144 total burials in the fiscal year to date across both cemetery locations and described monthly details: "Starting with the current cemetery, in September, there were a total of 10 burials..." Shelby said the counts include full-casket burials, niche interments and cremation burials and that the current year’s totals are roughly in line with last year.
Trustees asked about niche demand at the J Street location. Shelby said niches are less popular in more rural areas and that she will "really dive into" when Kern’s niches were built and how many remain. She told the board she will provide a fuller fiscal breakdown next month showing pre-need sales by type (full-casket pre-need, cremation, niches) so trustees can better gauge inventory and revenue tied to prepayments.
Chair called for action to accept the report; Supervisor Shuckley moved, Supervisor McCarrie seconded and the board approved the item unanimously, 4–0, with Supervisor Valero recorded as absent.
The district manager said the additional sales and pre-need detail will be brought to the next monthly meeting.
