Commissioners approve parks grants, reassessment contract, EDC correction and other consent items

Daviess County commissioners approved a slate of consent and contract items on Dec. 9 including multiple park grants, a vendor selection for reassessment, and several routine contract approvals.
Park and foundation grants: Nathan Wren outlined four grant requests to support park improvements: a Davies County Community Foundation award for shade structures at the beach house, a T‑Mobile hometown grant (about $44,009.68) for exterior and aesthetic work at the beach house, a Martin County Community Foundation request to fund an accessible outdoor fitness trail at West Boggs (eight pieces of equipment), and additional foundation applications (SIA Foundation $10,000 and a pending Duke Energy Foundation request of $15,000). The board approved the four grant requests unanimously (3–0).
Reassessment contract: Staff recommended Nexus for cyclical reassessment and annual adjustments after opening two bids; commissioners approved awarding the work to Nexus (3–0).
Buggy permits: Commissioners reviewed the annual buggy permit program and safety coordination with Amish community representatives and law enforcement. The board voted to keep permit fees at current levels for 2026 (3–0).
EDC contract: The board corrected an earlier signing error and approved the accurate Economic Development Corporation contract with an added metric for measuring success; the compensation amount remained unchanged (motion passed 3–0).
Other consent items approved without recorded opposition included an Axon purchase agreement, approval to send a cyber insurance questionnaire to Acrisure, and final approval of payroll claims and adjournment. Commissioners directed staff to circulate updated appointment lists and to include the Purdue Extension contract and legal services contract for fuller review at the Dec. 23 meeting.
