Daviess County commissioners on Monday approved a $54,000 allocation from the restricted opioid‑settlement fund to support IRACs’ jail‑based peer recovery program.
Laura, presenting the request, said the $54,000 represents the second 15% match for a grant the program sought; the funds will primarily cover salaries for peer recovery specialists who provide in‑jail classes and coordinate with probation and community corrections. Laura told the board the program aims to reduce recidivism by connecting incarcerated people with treatment and services before release.
Following the appropriation, Laura executed an out‑of‑category transfer moving remaining state DOC grant funds into a final bill for GPS‑monitoring equipment, a transfer she said would zero out the grant account. Commissioners approved both the appropriation and the transfer.
