Mayfield Heights adopts cybersecurity program to comply with state HB 96

Mayfield Heights City Council on Nov. 24 adopted Resolution 2025-64 to implement a municipal cybersecurity program and declared an emergency so the measure would take effect immediately.
The resolution was introduced by Mister Schmidlin and the council chair noted the action responds to state law: "The City of Mayfield Heights is required to implement a cybersecurity program pursuant to state HB 96. Therefore, it is the intent of the city of Mayfield Heights to comply with this," the chair said during discussion.
Council moved to suspend the rules and voted on the measure; the roll-call vote recorded unanimous 'yes' from members present. The resolution directs the city to stand up the program components required by the statute; council did not use the meeting to discuss detailed technical specifications or vendor selection.
Council members who spoke on the item emphasized compliance with the statute and thanked staff for the work done to prepare the legislation. The measure, passed under an emergency declaration, takes immediate effect and will require follow-up staff work to implement the program elements called for under state law.
