Board approves multiple hires, accepts retirements and grants tenure to two staff

On a superintendent recommendation, the board resolved to abolish a senior clerk typist position at Beck and create several roles including a 10-month teacher aide at the middle school, district float cleaner positions, two campus monitors at the high school, and fractional (0.2 FTE) instructional positions at Big Picture. The motion was moved and carried.
The board accepted resignations and retirements for multiple long-serving staff identified in the agenda (Amy Strasser; Kathleen Pine; Jennifer Lavelle; Rebecca Carlson; Juliet Zerbaki; Kevin Sheffield; Sandra George; Lou Schafer; Sherry Sherbert; Edward Gaff; Robert Phillipski) and members thanked retirees for years of service.
The board approved the appointment of Mary Jo Taylor as a principal clerk typist, pending final Erie County Civil Service approval and with fingerprint clearance from the New York State Education Department, effective December 22, 2025. The board also appointed Carissa Littlejohn as a teaching assistant at Big Tree; Littlejohn was present and recognized.
Additional support-staff appointments were approved (Laura Frost Vasquez as teacher aide districtwide; Donald Sawyer and others in transportation roles; Brian Whitmire as maintenance mechanic; a computer aide at Pinehurst; a licensed practical nurse districtwide; lunch monitor and bus attendant positions). Motions for these hires were moved, seconded and carried.
Finally, on the superintendent's recommendation, the board granted tenure to Shannon Thurston (elementary principal at Glaisdell) and Caitlin Rubach (special education teacher at Frontier Middle School); the motion carried unanimously as recorded.
The meeting record does not indicate contested votes or amendments to the personnel items; motions were recorded as moved, seconded and carried.
