The Moore County Board of Education approved a personnel report Dec. 17 that included a third amendment to the contract between the board and Jennifer C. Purvis, naming her interim superintendent with an effective start date of March 1, 2026.
Board members moved and seconded the personnel report on the record (motion by Miss Davis, second by Doctor Dahl) after discussing the agenda and hearing presentations later in the session. Board attorney Richard Schwartz read the motion language before the board approved the amendment by voice vote; the chair announced that the motion carried.
The board summarized Purvis’s district experience when announcing the appointment. According to the board’s remarks, Purvis has more than 31 years in education spanning classroom instruction, school leadership and district-level administration. The board said Purvis has served as assistant superintendent for operations in Moore County Schools since January 2023 and previously served as principal at Northmore High School (2012–2023) and at Bass Lakeview Elementary School.
Jennifer C. Purvis spoke briefly after the announcement. “I really appreciate the board’s confidence and trust in me, and I’m honored to be chosen to serve as interim superintendent,” she said, adding she is committed to providing stability for staff and students and to keeping student success at the center of decisions during the transition period.
The appointment was approved as part of the personnel report the board considered early in the meeting. Board members discussed next steps for finding a permanent superintendent during presentations by multiple search firms later in the session. The board recessed the special meeting and scheduled a follow-up session for Dec. 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to continue deliberations on selecting a search firm.
