Committee approves executive summary drafting and adds local butcher to plan
Summary
Committee members agreed that an executive summary should open the updated farmland preservation plan; Jason and Mary Jo were authorized to draft it. The committee also directed staff to add 'Custom Cuts Butchery' (Marengo) to the agricultural services list and to correct minor formatting issues.
Committee members asked for a short executive summary up front that highlights the plan’s key threats and priorities rather than burying those items in an appendix. After discussion the committee agreed that Jason and Mary Jo would draft the executive summary language for inclusion in the plan; a motion to authorize them to do so was made, seconded, and carried by voice vote.
Members asked that the threats appendix be preserved as a bulleted appendix while the executive summary present the same material as a short narrative preamble. Staff confirmed they will prepare a two-to-three paragraph narrative summary consistent with committee direction and to circulate it to Mary Jo for feedback prior to submission.
On housekeeping matters, the committee confirmed removal of Pat Kenny’s name from the plan (per Mary Jo’s request) and asked staff to add a new local business to the agricultural services list. A participant requested that 'Custom Cuts Butchery' in Marengo be added; staff agreed to include the business entry in the plan.
A member also suggested creating an executive-summary preamble that lists the county’s primary concerns up front so casual readers would see the key issues without reading the entire document. Staff agreed to draft the text and bring it forward with the rest of the materials for the board packet.
