Committee hears updates on Beazer Avenue housing project and Enbridge construction camp

Members also discussed Enbridge’s planned construction facility near Marengo. Dan Grady said the site is intended as a construction camp during pipeline work and that ‘‘it’s gonna be a campground afterwards’’ but noted the owner could later convert the site to a mobile-home park because pads, electricity, sewer and water infrastructure would be in place. Committee members said a court challenge over state DNR-issued permits remains pending; a committee speaker said a judge’s decision on the challenge is expected within 30 to 60 days, while Enbridge has indicated it would like to begin digging in February.
The committee connected the Beazer housing project to a TIF district that includes the Beazer School, observed that the library will move and suggested the school building may be repurposed for housing in the future. Members noted timelines were uncertain, and some cautioned that legal challenges could affect start dates for Enbridge work or conversion plans.
