At the Dec. 2 Galt City Council meeting the council selected new leadership and approved routine financial items.
In a written (and audibly reported) ballot process the council elected Council member Bonnie Rodriguez mayor for a term ending Dec. 2026. The clerk read each council member’s ballot aloud: Tim Reid and Matt Pratt voted for Rodriguez, Rodriguez voted for herself, and two council members (Sean Farmer and Paul Sandhu) initially indicated support for Paul Sandhu; Rodriguez achieved a majority and was declared mayor. The council then selected Tim Reid as vice mayor by written tally.
On finance matters, the council approved the city treasurer’s report for the period ending Sept. 2025. City Treasurer Farrell summarized local housing market figures (39 closed home sales between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30 with a reported median closed sales price of $530,000) and described the city’s investment portfolio allocation and interest income for the fiscal quarter; he noted the portfolio is weighted toward quasi‑government bonds (Federal Home Loan Bank, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) and discussed callable bond mechanics and sensitivity to upcoming Federal Reserve rate decisions. The treasurer’s report was approved 5–0.
Council member Bonnie Rodriguez moved to allocate her $1,000 council public‑benefit funds to the Sunshine Food Pantry and Resource Center for seasonal needs. The motion was seconded and approved 5–0.
The meeting also included other staff reports and announcements: Parks and Recreation announced a ribbon cutting and a lighting parade; economic development staff reported plans for a Grocery Outlet to occupy the former Rite Aid space in early 2026; and the police department announced a holiday open house.
