Crest Hill honors holiday light contest winners, celebrates WinterFest turnout

The Crest Hill City Council recognized winners of the city’s holiday lights contest and celebrated the success of WinterFest during its Dec. 15 meeting.
Alderman Claudia Gazzall announced first-place winners (Bridal and Regina Filipiak) and multiple honorable mentions; winners received gift cards from local businesses and certificates. Gazzall thanked volunteer judges, city clerk Christopher Shea and staff, and sponsors for supporting the event despite difficult weather this season.
Council members and residents who spoke praised the quality and creativity of entries, including sidewalk arches and elaborate displays. Mayor Ray Solomon and several aldermen congratulated organizers and participants and encouraged neighbors to continue decorating next year.
During committee reports, Gazzall gave a detailed WinterFest wrap-up, acknowledged about 25 volunteers, and listed sponsors including Lockwood Township, Strand Associates, Food 4 Less and Sopranos Pizza. The event committee said it plans to grow WinterFest in 2026. Council also announced a recycling program for holiday light strands and extension cords at City Hall from Dec. 29, 2025, through Jan. 30, 2026.
