Crest Hill appoints Gary Richardson as public works director, effective Dec. 16

The Crest Hill City Council voted Dec. 15 to appoint Gary Richardson as the city’s new director of public works, making the hire effective Dec. 16, 2025.
Mayor Ray Solomon told the council the city interviewed three candidates on Dec. 2 and selected Richardson, who the mayor said has 23 years of public-service experience and 11 years as a public-works director in University Park and Lansing, Illinois. The council approved a resolution appointing Richardson during a roll-call vote that the clerk recorded as all members present voting to carry the motion.
Richardson, speaking after the vote, thanked the council and said he was ready to start immediately: "It was a pleasure being here last week... I'm excited to serve the residents of Cresthill," he said. Laurie Peterson of Local Gov Staffing Solutions, the firm the city used to advertise and screen candidates, told the council Richardson checked the boxes the city wanted and cited his enthusiasm for public works.
The mayor and multiple aldermen welcomed Richardson and praised the hiring process. Council documents show the appointment was filed as Resolution 1364 and the administration said Richardson’s effective date is Dec. 16, 2025. No amendments to the appointment were recorded in the meeting.
The council did not specify additional terms in the public discussion during the meeting; implementation and onboarding were discussed briefly with staff arranging start-date logistics.
