Advisory committee previews American Cruise Line visits; Coast Guard to review docking plan

Committee members discussed logistics for several planned visits by an American Cruise Line vessel that staff said is too large to maneuver inside the marina and will instead dock along the riverfront.
Speaker 3 described the vessel (referred to as the Patriot) and provided dimensions as reported to staff: "The Patriot was 248 feet long, 55 feet wide... I think he said it was a 134 feet tall," and added the vessel's draft as 9 feet. Speaker 3 said the Coast Guard is reviewing a written plan the cruise company is preparing and will set up a meeting and site visit once the plan is complete.
Because the vessel cannot turn within the marina or harbor, staff said the ship will berth at the South Riverfront and use a gangway and tender operations to bring passengers ashore. Speaker 3 said DPW may need to lift a railing at South Riverfront Park for the visits and that the company would pay the standard docking rate.
Speaker 3 said the cruise company has been working with the port director and expects to present a plan after the holiday period; until then, staff will await the written plan and Coast Guard coordination before finalizing operational arrangements.
