The Stoughton Area School District board voted to approve the 2026–27 school calendar after waiving the two-step approval process.
Calendar committee member Kate summarized the proposal and the committee’s priorities: prioritize student learning and belonging, align family conference timing, account for athletic schedules and meet DPI instructional‑minute requirements. Kate said the proposed calendar begins Tuesday, Sept. 1 and ends Thursday, June 10, and maintains scheduled professional learning days for staff. "We really want to provide prioritize student learning and belonging," Kate said, describing consultation with past committee members and stakeholders.
Trustees moved to waive the two-step process and then moved to approve the calendar; both motions carried by voice/roll call vote. A trustee asked why the calendar begins on Tuesday rather than Monday; Kate said the district typically begins on Sept. 1 "—that is by statute" and noted some districts have waivers to begin earlier.
The approved calendar keeps a mix of fall professional learning days and family-conference timing intended to support teachers’ ability to meet families early in the year.
Next steps: the calendar will be published to staff and families; staff and the committee said they will continue outreach and share details on conferences and key dates.
