County appoints Danny Crossley to groundwater district board; candidate warns of outside water transfers

Henderson County Commissioners Court unanimously appointed Danny Crossley of Chandler to a four-year term on the Natchez and Trinity Valleys Groundwater Conservation District board that begins Jan. 1, 2026.
Crossley, who identified himself as a retired state public-water-supply inspector with about 17 years of experience, spoke to the court about groundwater protection and local oversight. "I'm very concerned that... Mister Bass drilling the water wells and I'm very concerned that... they're planning to take our water," Crossley said, arguing the county needs members on the district board who will prioritize local groundwater interests.
The court reviewed a letter noting Dr. Sam Hurley’s term expires Dec. 31 and that multiple residents had applied for the vacancy. Commissioners said public feedback indicated a desire for new representation on the board; Commissioner McCam moved to appoint Crossley and Commissioner Spidey seconded the motion. The appointment passed unanimously.
Court members did discuss possible conflicts with Crossley’s current service on another local water-board entity; Crossley said he would resign any position necessary to serve on the groundwater district. The court did not record any formal objections or contested votes.
What happens next: Crossley’s four-year term starts Jan. 1, 2026. The county did not outline additional next steps for the district seat within the meeting record.
