Emergency Management urges precautions as temperatures drop; council approves $10,000 EMA grant appropriation

The Vermillion County Emergency Management director, Blair, used the council’s public-comment time to urge residents to prepare for a sudden cold snap and to use available online resources for road conditions.
Blair advised leaving faucets slightly open to reduce the chance of frozen indoor water lines, checking vehicle batteries and keeping spare warm clothing in vehicles. Blair pointed residents to live-streamed road and weather cameras on the Indiana Weather Network and the state's 511 site to check local road conditions.
Earlier in the meeting, the council appropriated a $10,000 grant from Apex to EMA. S2 said the deposit was placed in the general fund and was being moved into line account 33500 (equipment and maintenance) in Location 133 (Emergency Management) so EMA could spend the funds on equipment and maintenance agreements.
Blair also noted that the county is monitoring conditions and encouraged residents to exercise caution outdoors and check weather and road-camera feeds before travel.
