Vermillion County Council members agreed to delay Park Board appointments until staff could verify term dates and ensure the county is following state and local requirements.
Dwayne Borsch, who identified himself as Park Board president while at the podium, told the council he had reviewed the Park Board's master plan and supporting documents and found what he described as inconsistent term entries. "The terms for the two positions for the county council, those should be on staggered terms, not appointed in the same year," Borsch said, and he cited Indiana Code 36-10-3 when explaining the basis for staggered appointments.
Council members responded that records and meeting minutes will be pulled to confirm appointment dates, and the council voted to table the Park Board appointment until January. S2 said the auditor and staff will search prior meeting minutes to resolve discrepancies and return with verified dates.
The delay preserves compliance review and prevents the council from making appointments that could later require correction. The item will be placed on the January agenda after staff completes the records check.
