Ridge Avenue resident says repeated potholes and erosion are causing home damage; engineer to coordinate with MUA

At the Nov. 24 meeting of the Egg Harbor Township Committee, resident Jim Vafasic of 7106 Ridge Avenue read a letter and presented photographs documenting repeated pothole reports, failing temporary patches, eroded shoulders and water intrusion into his crawlspace after a light rainfall.

"For the past 9 months, I've been attempting to get Ridge Avenue repaired... On November 22, it came personal because water is now leaking into my home via the crawl space," Vafasic told the committee and asked for repairs "ASAP." He said a 40–50 foot section of shoulder has eroded and described heavy daily school-bus traffic he believes is worsening the road.

Township staff and the engineer responded that the road is failing in part because of an underlying sewer/force-main issue and that the Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) recently completed an emergency force-main repair that affected repaving plans. The engineer said they will inspect the site, coordinate with the MUA and administration, and follow up with the resident.

Why it matters: The resident provided photographic evidence of damage and alleged impacts to his home; the township committed to an engineering review and coordination with the MUA to determine responsibility and schedule repairs.

The engineer said the road program for 2026 will be approved as part of next year’s plan but that Ridge Avenue will be evaluated now to determine whether the MUA will complete repairs or the township needs to include the street in its paving program.
