Mister McLean, a representative of local EMS provider MAPS, told Munhall Borough Council the service’s operations improved after municipal support helped raise wages and stabilize staffing. He said the organization has invested in vehicles and cardiac monitors and now staffs two ALS units 24/7, and that it was "not equal" previously in pay to neighboring services before the municipal assistance.
McLean said MAPS will mark its 30th anniversary in 2026 and plans to expand community outreach, including free CPR certification classes. "Our goal is to make Munhall the safest place to have a medical emergency," McLean said, and he asked the borough to help publicize classes and anniversary events through municipal communication channels.
MAPS representatives said the service is largely self-sustaining through billing and municipal support and that recent investments—cited by the presenter as about $500,000—were used for a new ambulance and four cardiac monitors. McLean said MAPS had trained roughly 50 residents in free classes last year and hoped to increase participation in 2026; the group requested modest advertising assistance from the borough rather than operating subsidies.
Council members and residents also recounted local EMS history and praised volunteers who helped create early ambulance services in the 1960s. No formal funding decision was recorded at the meeting; McLean’s requests were for publicity and continued partnership.
