The Renton City Council adopted several legislative items and made appointments during its Dec. 8 meeting.
Ordinances: The council adopted an ordinance authorizing acquisition of multiple tax parcels (listed in the record) — including potential use of eminent domain — for a city maintenance facility and a resource center (the Compton Lumber site was referenced). The council then adopted Ordinance 6,179, a Critical Areas Ordinance update that amends multiple Renton Municipal Code sections to align critical-areas regulations with best available science; the ordinance text and subsection changes were read into the record prior to roll-call adoption.
Appointments: The Community Services Committee recommended and the council concurred with the appointment of Matthew Wolcott to a vacant term on the Equity Commission through Dec. 31, 2028. In new business the council president moved to appoint Council Member Perez to Seat 1 of the Renton Regional Fire Authority governing board for a three-year term (Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2028); after discussion about rotation and equity of appointments, the motion carried by voice vote.
Executive session: The council moved to recess into executive session for approximately 30 minutes to discuss potential property acquisition pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(b) with no official action to be taken after the session.
