City staff used the Dec. 2 Wayne City Council meeting to brief council members on community services and ongoing capital projects.
Library director Jody told the council that the winter library newsletter is available and highlighted several upcoming events: a Lego ‘‘build’’ challenge for children on Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m., a greeting-card workshop for adults on the following Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and a felt-gingerbread magnet activity on Dec. 13 at 12:30 p.m. She also noted a ‘‘big Santa mailbox’’ in the library lobby and encouraged families to participate. "We've got a lot of things going on," Jody said.
City staff also reported project updates: Goudy Park has visible progress with remaining work including stone placement, column lights and retaining walls; the pump house renovation, a joint project of the Downtown Development Authority and the Rotary, is scheduled for completion next spring. Contractors have largely cleared the former parking-structure site, grading and placing topsoil; the new library parking lot was reported as expected to open Monday.
City clerk Parnell told the council the clerk’s office will begin selling 2026 animal licenses in December and that renewals will be considered late after March 1 unless the animal is a new puppy or a new adoption. Residents were directed to the clerk’s office for more information.
The updates were informational; no formal policy votes were taken on these project reports at the meeting.
