Wayne extends water-service contract, reports lead-line progress and approves MDOT MOU for Glenwood Road work

Council approved change order No. 3 for the 2024 Lehi water-service replacement project to extend the contract term to June 30 and adjust quantities; engineering staff said the order results in a net $19 decrease and a $29 total decrease across all change orders. Public works staff reported the lead-service-line program is largely complete in Wayne; the most recent update cited eight remaining lines, four of which staff said are inaccessible because of vacant or foreclosed properties. Staff said they will coordinate with the building department to pursue access on a case-by-case basis and continue the replacement work in the spring.
Council also approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Westland to participate in a Michigan Department of Transportation grant to resurface Glenwood Road (Hannon to Newburgh). Wayne’s share of the project was listed not to exceed $269,602, which staff said includes a 10% contingency and would be paid from local and major road funds.
Council approved the items on voice votes; staff thanked state and federal partners for grant support and pledged to continue lead-line replacement work as funding allows.
