Council hears Rose Float preview and recognizes local Eagle Scouts

The Sierra Madre Rose Float Association presented a preview of the city’s 2026 Rose Parade float to the City Council on Dec. 9, showing a rendering and describing features that include a towering pancake stack with a syrup element that lifts up to about 24 feet. Evelyn Schafer, representing the association, asked for volunteers and highlighted the volunteer-built tradition: she said the float will use more than 37,000 flowers, added by community volunteers.
Three youth princesses — Gigi Kretchmer, Aubrey Lee Ho and Lacey Kong — introduced themselves and spoke about community service and pride in Sierra Madre traditions.
The council also recognized six Eagle Scouts from Troop 110 and Troop 373 and described each scout’s Eagle project, which included shelving for a local elementary school, garden work at Pasadena High School and fencing/landscape repairs at local centers. The mayor invited Scouts and parade princesses for photos with council members.
These items were presented as community recognition and did not require council action.
