Commissioners approve Justice Building elevator repairs and heater replacements at Highway Garage

County Administrator Marcia McCherry presented two facilities items and the board approved both.

Marcia McCherry asked approval of a Kone contract to comprehensively replace parts on the Justice Building dock elevator after recurring problems with sticking doors and components falling off tracks. McCherry reported the cost as $54,004.92 and said the elevator would be out of service for approximately one week; staff will coordinate with the sheriff’s department and maintenance to reduce impacts.

McCherry also presented two quotes from Core Mechanical to replace unit heaters at the County Highway Garage after preventive maintenance found cracked heat exchangers in units 14, 15 and 17. Each Core Mechanical contract was listed at $6,002.70; commissioners approved both contracts.

Why it matters: The elevator work addresses safety and reliability in a building used for justice operations and deliveries; the heater replacements address equipment failures that could affect winter operations. Commissioners approved both items and directed staff to coordinate scheduling and minimize operational disruptions.

Procedure and next steps: Staff will schedule the elevator downtime and heater replacements and manage contractor coordination and invoicing through the county’s procurement process.
