Tiffin residents raise parking and safety concerns near Heidelberg Fieldhouse; city pledges enforcement and signage review

During oral communications, resident Carol Kaufman told council that events at Heidelberg Fieldhouse have caused repeated illegal parking on sidewalks and intersections near Walker and Goodsell streets, making walking hazardous and reducing resident street parking. Kaufman said she repeatedly called police and suggested signage and more enforcement.

City staff said parking on sidewalks is illegal and that officers will issue tickets; the city administrator said the traffic safety committee will review whether additional signage is needed and noted that city requirements for the Heidelberg project included added parking. Councilmembers and residents suggested increased patrolling at large events and outreach to Heidelberg and Tiffin University to educate event attendees.

Council thanked the resident for bringing the issue and encouraged continued reporting if problems persist. Several councilmembers proposed outreach and enforcement as short‑term steps while the traffic safety committee examines longer‑term signage needs.
