Tiffin City Council on Nov. 25 approved Resolution 25-51, sponsoring a memorial bench and declaring an emergency to allow immediate implementation. Councilmember Kyle Dougherty introduced the measure and moved for immediate passage and suspension of the three-reading rule; Councilmember Cheyenne Thacker seconded the motion.
Councilmembers speaking in favor said the bench would be a small but meaningful way to memorialize a recent tragedy and recognize first responders. "If this is a small way that we can memorialize such a tragic event in our community, I think it's an easy yes for me," Councilmember Cheyenne Thacker said. Councilmember Smith also referenced community support and the need to "bear one another's burdens."
The council voted first to suspend the three-reading rule, then on the emergency declaration, and finally on passage; each roll call returned a 6–0 vote. The resolution will authorize city staff to proceed with sponsorship and siting of the bench in line with city procedures.
The council did not record further conditions or amendments during the vote. The council president closed discussion after brief remarks and moved on to remaining business.
