The Brockton School Committee voted to accept a Memorandum of Agreement with the Brockton Education Association and approved a custodial contract with the Teamsters after a portion of the meeting was held in executive session on collective bargaining.
The committee returned to open session and a motion “to accept the MOA for the BEA contract” was made by Judy Sullivan and seconded by Mister Gomes. The transcript records the outcome as six yes votes, one abstention and one member noted as not present; the MOA was approved. Later the committee approved the custodial Teamsters contract, a motion attributed to Mister Vega and seconded by Miss Oliver; roll-call votes recorded in the transcript yielded unanimous approval.
Earlier in the evening the committee approved its consent agenda, including the Paul Anthony Tascio Memorial Scholarship and acceptance of folding-chair donations to Brockton Public Schools. The consent agenda motion was made by Miss Azak, seconded by Mister Gomes, and passed unanimously.
The motions followed an executive-session discussion the chair said was taken pursuant to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 30A, section 21(a)(3) (collective bargaining or litigation) and related statutory provisions for executive-session minutes. The transcript does not record the detailed terms of the contracts in open session; the committee approved the agreements as presented in executive session.
