Pine Cove resident urges Nacogdoches council to install no‑wake safety buoy

Jenny Moore, a resident of Pine Cove on Lake Nacogdoches, told the City Council during open forum that neighbors are experiencing repeated safety and property‑damage incidents from high‑speed boats and jet skis entering and exiting the cove.
"We're having a problem with jet skis, ski boats, and fishing boats that are entering and exiting the cove at high rates of speed," Moore said. She described jet skis performing circles and acrobatics that create large wakes, produce disruptive noise and threaten swimmers, paddle‑boaters and kayakers. "It's a very scary situation," she said, adding that she has had to wave down boaters while swimming with her five grandchildren.
Moore asked the council to place a no‑wake safety buoy near the entrance to Pine Cove, saying the measure would slow dangerous traffic, reduce shoreline erosion and prevent property damage. She told council members she had gathered a petition and provided maps showing the cove’s layout and the locations she believes are most hazardous. Moore also cited nearby developments—the Nacogdoches Ranch on County Road 779 and a new campground on Highway 225—as likely to increase lake traffic.
Mayor Randy Johnson thanked Moore for her remarks. The council did not take formal action on the request during the meeting; no staff direction or timeline was recorded on the minutes. Moore’s materials were accepted at the meeting for further consideration.
