Saco announces community resources, parade route, Exit 35 opening and department updates

SACO, Maine — During the Nov. 10 council meeting, interim city staff provided a bundle of administrative updates and community notices.
Interim City Manager Emily Cole Prescott said the city launched a community resource list to help residents amid uncertainty tied to a federal government shutdown and SNAP benefit changes. The city’s general assistance page and partner organizations are being highlighted for food and essential services referrals.
Staff reminded residents of the Biddeford‑Saco Veterans Day Parade schedule (opening ceremony 9:30 a.m. at Mechanics Park in Biddeford; lineup at 10:00 a.m.; procession into Saco with a closing ceremony at C. K. Burns School) and noted city offices and the Saco Transfer Station will be closed in observance of the holiday.
Prescott also noted the Maine Turnpike Authority opened Exit 35 on Nov. 3, the first new exit in more than 20 years. Public Works posted bid tabulations for the Ferry Road and Seaside Avenue Resiliency Improvement Project on the city website. She announced Deputy Fire Chief Robert Martin retired effective Oct. 30, 2025, after more than 37 years with Saco Fire.
On solar permitting, staff reported an uptick in residential applications likely tied to the federal residential clean energy credit expiring Dec. 31; Code Enforcement cannot guarantee processing of applications submitted after Nov. 9 by the Dec. 31 deadline and residents were advised to contact the department with questions.
The city will continue to post updates and solicit community feedback where appropriate.
