Waunakee approves $75,000 first phase for Lions Park skate-park redesign

The Village of Waunakee approved final phase 1 designs and a $75,000 phase-1 proposal to upgrade the Lions Park skate park, with staff and young skaters involved in the design process.
"This project includes repair of existing parts of the skate park as well as the installation of some new pieces," said Sue McDade, community services director, who described the design as a collaborative effort with local skaters and the contractor American Ramp Company. McDade noted $75,000 was budgeted in 2024 for the work.
Trustees asked about long-term maintenance and possible lighting; staff said the materials and repairs in the new design should reduce maintenance compared with the original wooden features. The board approved the phase 1 designs and the proposal by voice vote.
Staff said work is expected to proceed in the spring, and the parks team will continue to consider additional amenities such as benches and picnic tables requested by residents.
