City legal staff and council discussed long-running opioid litigation settlements and the state's prescribed term sheet that allows local governments to participate and receive allocations.
Legal counsel explained the funds are typically modest for small cities but can be used for Narcan, responder equipment, training, education and other opioid-related response activities. Staff said the city has been provided approximately $25,000 so far in three payments and that the Attorney General's office urged the city to submit paperwork to participate; otherwise funds might need to be returned.
Council voted to approve the resolution to participate in the settlements and to abide by the state-prescribed term sheet. Staff said any funds that arrive will be tracked and used in accordance with the permitted uses and that council will be updated on funds received and proposed expenditures.
