Ladrina Walton, a dance teacher and business owner, told the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Dec. 18 she wants to offer youth competitive-cheer classes for ages roughly 3–13 and adult hip-hop fitness classes in Milton. "Dance is a fun way to keep folks healthy, and so I wanna bring that here to the Milton community," Walton said.
Walton said youth classes would run about 50 minutes once a week for five-week sessions and include chants, steps and a session-end showcase. She said she provides pompoms and aims for a minimum class size of four but does not impose a firm cap. For adults, Walton described one-hour hip-hop fitness classes for ages 18 and older, with a $35 drop-in option available for those who want to try a session first.
Board members raised program logistics, including potential conflicts with existing cheer offerings and facility space. Staff reported they had contacted the local football program and found no schedule conflicts because Walton’s proposal is structured more like a dance class than sideline cheer competition. Walton said the program could be offered at Milton indoor spaces such as MCPP or Bethwell.
After questions on enrollment, frequency and pricing, Board member Jason moved that staff continue conversations with Walton about implementing the youth competitive-cheer program; Allison seconded the motion and the board voted to move forward. The motion directs staff to return with more details on scheduling, fees, facility assignments and any required insurance or permitting.
Next steps: staff will continue discussions with Walton and report back to PRAB with proposed program logistics and any recommendations for permitting, fees and facility usage.
