Eatonville honors band instructor Susie Danielson as students perform U2 tribute

Students opened the meeting with a musical tribute to longtime band instructor Susie Danielson, performing U2’s “With or Without You” and offering short comments about the influence she has had on their school experience.

Superintendent Brower presented a certificate “to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Miss Susie Danielson,” saying her dedication, grant work and day-to-day commitment have expanded access to instruments, enhanced learning experiences and strengthened music programs across the Eatonville School District. Brower added that Danielson’s work has helped pack audiences at performances and create lasting opportunities for students.

Multiple students told the board Danielson had changed their musical path and helped fundraise for trips, with one junior drum major explaining the group organized the performance specifically to honor her. Students described Danielson as a teacher who builds community and gives many students their favorite parts of the school day.

Board members and administrators thanked the students for the performance and praised Danielson’s program-building, noting that the teacher also secures grants that have purchased instruments and supported ensemble growth. A board member who served as Danielson’s evaluator this year described observing measurable growth in student performance.

After the presentation the board offered students the option to leave the meeting if they were not staying for the work study. The board later returned to regular business and thanked staff and students for the night’s program.

The district did not take any formal action in connection with the recognition; the presentation was ceremonial and informational.
