Citrus Heights council names Mary Jane Lopez Taff mayor, Pusha Middleton vice mayor

The Citrus Heights City Council unanimously selected Mary Jane Lopez Taff as mayor and Pusha Middleton as vice mayor during its Dec. 10 meeting.
The council followed its customary December rotation process. After a short public comment, in which Bill Shirley, president of the Chasen neighborhood group, praised Lopez Taff’s engagement with residents and monthly attendance at meetings, Council Member Schaeffer nominated Lopez Taff for mayor; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote. Middleton was nominated and seconded for vice mayor and likewise approved by voice vote.
The nominations were made during the meeting’s special-item segment for leadership appointments. Councilmembers said the rotation honors seniority and service and cited earlier practice since the city’s incorporation. The council took a brief recess for photographs after the appointments.
The appointment is a council selection (the mayor and vice mayor “serve at the pleasure of the city council”); no additional procedural steps were required at the meeting.
