Council advances drainage, elevator and budget items; several demolition changes approved

New Iberia — In addition to larger items, the council moved several routine but consequential items through introduction or approval.
Resolutions introduced or moved to award included a drainage improvements engineering/contract package (resolution No. 25155) to Chandler Staples and Consulting LLC with preliminary bids and a January advertisement schedule; a contract authorization with Otis Elevator for maintenance at the Bayou Teche Museum (resolution No. 25156) was also introduced. The council approved deletion of a previously listed demolition award resolution that had become unnecessary after state discussions and approved a change order adding roughly $12,000 to a demolition contract because a structure burned and asbestos removal raised costs. The council introduced special budget ordinances to accommodate increases in group health insurance and to reallocate LGAP vehicle funds to the parks department; both were set for public hearings on Dec. 16, 2025.
Clerk and staff said many of these actions are contingent on approvals from the Office of Facility Planning and Control or state agencies; members encouraged staff to proceed with advertising bids and to bring cost and schedule details to the council as they become available.
Council took the measures by motion and ordered the usual machine votes for adoption or introduction as appropriate.
