The Franklin City Common Council voted Thursday to accept a donation of a roughly 1.1-acre vacant parcel on South 27th Street and directed that the closing statement record the donation’s value as $300,200.
City staff member Mr. Wazilowski told the council staff, engineering and planning had reviewed the lot and "recommendation is to accept the donation." The parcel was described as vacant, on the west side of South 27th Street, south of West Buttes Road and north of Franklin Terrace, with tax key number 8559907-000.
The property owners’ representative said the parcel has been in the family since 1956 and that multiple heirs have made selling the land impractical because there is no sewer or water service in front of the lot. The representative said a title search showed no liens and asked the council to accept the donation and to list the higher, recent valuation on the closing statement: "we would just ask that the closing statement show that the donation is a $300,000 donation to the city." The council and staff agreed to reflect the current assessed value of $300,200 on the closing paperwork.
Council members moved and seconded the motion as read by staff to accept the donation with the amended closing-statement value; approval was by voice vote and the chair stated the motion carried. The meeting then moved to adjourn and ended at 5:07 p.m.
The action will be followed by standard closing and conveyance steps to transfer title to the city; the council did not record a roll-call tally of individual votes in the transcript.
