The Franklin City Environmental and Parks Commission took several formal actions during its Dec. 8 meeting.
Approve minutes: The commission moved to approve the Nov. 10 meeting minutes and voted to adopt them as presented.
Tabled item: A commissioner asked to table an item that had been raised; the commission approved tabling the item for future consideration and asked the speaker to email staff with follow‑up.
Park renaming recommendation: The commission voted to forward a recommended park renaming to the Franklin Common Council for final approval. Staff said they would prepare the council action sheet and said the renaming would be placed on the next available council agenda in January.
Concerts in the park: The commission approved a recurring Concerts in the Park request from Engage Franklin Concerts, Inc. for listed 2026 dates (June 28, July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23) subject to standard protections (for example, instructions in the packet requested avoiding driving near oak trees).
Pickleball tournament request withdrawn: Separately, a pickleball tournament request submitted by an out‑of‑state organizer was withdrawn before commission review; commissioners discussed the preference for local organizers and the tourism funding relationships that undergird some events.
The commission adjourned at about 8:26 p.m.
