Board adopts long-range library plan and district safety plan
Summary
The board unanimously approved a DPI-aligned long-range library plan emphasizing literacy, digital access and partnerships, and approved an updated district safety plan that expands reunification guidance and aligns with standard response protocol.
Two district plans passed the board tonight: a long-range library plan and the district safety plan.
Andre Dimmer, district library media specialist, presented the long-range library plan that aligns with the updated DPI Future Ready Librarian framework and centers on nine focus areas including learner-centered literacy, curriculum alignment, professional learning, infrastructure, equitable collections, community partnerships and data/privacy. The board approved the plan by voice vote; the presenter said the plan will be submitted to DPI as required.
The board also approved an updated district safety plan presented by the district safety lead (Brian). Updates include a linked table of contents for navigation, explicit alignment to the I Love You Guys standard response protocol, expanded reunification guidance, a clarified approach distinguishing individuals suspected of having a weapon versus confirmed weapons incidents, and an added appendix listing annual safety activities and primary/alternate reunification sites. Administrators said the confidential building-level safety documents will continue to be updated and that the plan will be filed with state authorities as required.
Both approvals were unanimous; district staff said each plan will continue to be refined annually and will require follow-up work with building teams and external partners such as local police and the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department.
