Clarksburg — After questions about long-term maintenance and risks associated with vacant large buildings, the City Council voted on Dec. 18 to participate in the auction for the property formerly known as Washington Irving Middle School.

Council members said the gym and other facilities could provide community benefit if a viable plan or partner is found. The council discussed entering closed session to discuss purchase, sale or lease negotiations and then approved participation in the upcoming auction.

The vote to participate passed with a majority of council members. Staff said they will pursue procedural steps required to enter the auction and will report back to council with any bids or additional details.
