Commissioners discuss adding two radio towers and boosters after ARPA-funded central dispatch work

The Judiciary Public Safety Committee discussed efforts to expand radio communications for first responders across Saint Clair County.
Commissioners and staff recounted prior investments (described in the meeting as roughly $9,000,000) toward tower and central-dispatch infrastructure in downriver areas and said county engineers and contractors could extend the project northward on an economy-of-scale basis. Proposed additions discussed included two towers (Rockway and Yale areas) and a booster in Kimbell. Staff said Motorola is the vendor coordinating tower work and that planning and analysis for additional northern-county coverage will be reviewed in January so that first-responder radio coverage can be confirmed before further bonding or contracting decisions.
No final procurement votes were taken at the committee level; commissioners requested additional analyses and scheduled follow-up discussion in the January committee cycle.
