Planning commission approves McElroy Park 14‑lot preliminary plat in RSS zoning

The Stillwater Planning Commission unanimously approved the McElroy Park preliminary plat for 2002 East McElroy Road at its Dec. 2 meeting.
Development Services staff presented the proposal as a 14-lot single-family subdivision in RSS (small-lot single-family residential) zoning with one outlot to the north for a detention facility. Staff said the proposal meets RSS and subdivision standards and noted prior iterations had included a larger project called Cowboy Landing.
Developer Saif Alusi said the project evolved through community engagement and that the 14-lot plan responds to neighborhood concerns about density. “We’ve come back. We gotta do something with this property. We feel that the 14 units fits within what the scope was of, you know, the ruling and the code,” Alusi said.
A neighbor, Simon Rangsmith (1705 East Linda Avenue), spoke in favor, saying the plan fits the surrounding context and that he had no objections. Staff recommended approval; a commissioner moved to accept the findings and approve the preliminary plat, the motion was seconded and passed 5-0.
What happens next: the applicant will proceed with detailed engineering and plan submittals consistent with subdivision requirements and any conditions of final plat approval.
