Kirksville — During the citizen-participation period, Maggie Snyder told the council she assisted a friend whose home had been broken into while the friend attended a funeral and urged the city to act on homelessness and substance-use issues.
Snyder urged the council to explore converting vacant commercial space into housing or job opportunities, to connect people to local help programs and to involve organizations she said are already supporting residents. "We need to get these people in ... give them a job to support themselves," she said, and referenced local assistance programs and FEMA in describing support networks.
Council did not take immediate action on Snyder's remarks at the meeting; comments were part of the open public-comment period and staff and councilmembers later noted ongoing community-service and volunteer efforts the city is promoting, including the JustServe platform.
