Belton ISD board adopts 2026–27 academic calendar after community survey

The Belton Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 6–0 to adopt the district’s 2026–27 academic calendar after a presentation by Gabby Nino, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.
Nino described the development process led by the district’s DWIC committee: staff and community feedback (793 survey respondents) informed multiple draft options. She said the recommended Option 1 "prioritizes instruction first" and restores an additional professional learning day at the beginning of the school year after earlier feedback that teachers needed more prep and training time.
Nino said planners also sought alignment with regional university calendars to reduce conflicts for families when feasible and to provide meaningful spacing for breaks and professional learning during the year. "This option prioritizes instruction, balance, and alignment," she told trustees.
Trustees moved to adopt the calendar; the motion passed by a unanimous voice/hand vote recorded as 6–0. Board members said they welcomed the community input and the committee’s work in balancing instructional time with staff planning needs.
What happens next: District staff will publish the adopted calendar and communicate the changes and timelines to campuses, families and counselors ahead of course selection and registration for the 2026–27 school year.
