Students from Tri‑Tech, Mid Columbia Partnership, Delta, Legacy, Endeavor and Phoenix told the board how choice programs, CTE pathways and small‑school models helped them earn college credits, certifications and regain academic momentum.
During the district’s reports and discussions, students and principals from Kennewick’s choice schools described how alternative and career‑technical programs support students who need different learning environments.
At Tri‑Tech a senior described earning EMT and wildland certifications and participating in a summer fire and EMS program; Tri‑Tech director Paul Rantel said the center serves more than 1,100 students across programs. Students representing Mid Columbia Partnership, Delta and the Legacy/Endeavor/Phoenix group described small‑school supports, project‑based learning, leadership roles and attainment of college credits and associate degrees while in high school.
Principals and board members emphasized that choice schools are levy‑sponsored and depend on continued community support. Board members commended the students’ presentations as among the most compelling parts of the meeting and thanked principals and staff for the programs.
Board members asked staff to convey appreciation to the presenters and noted the presentations will be helpful in informational outreach about the levies.
