Roswell Independent Schools outlines HR supports for new teachers at orientation
Summary
District leaders and HR staff introduced onboarding supports for new teachers — including hiring, benefits, substitutes, licensure and a substitute hotline — and invited staff to use HR contacts for questions.
Roswell Independent Schools held a staff orientation in which Superintendent Brian Lutton and Assistant Superintendent Mireya Trujillo introduced the district's human resources services and staff who will support new teachers.
"You are joining 1 of the most worthy professions," Mireya Trujillo said, describing HR's role in "building pathways to employment opportunities" and supporting teachers' advancement. Director of human resources Ralph Mata introduced the HR team's responsibilities — benefits, hiring, transfer forms, EA testing and administration of the recruiting/hire system — and gave a contact phone number, 627-2518, for HR questions.
HR specialists described day-to-day functions: Annabelle (HR specialist, applications) said she handles recommendations, part-time hiring and transfers; Jessica and Valicelli said they cover contracts, onboarding and licensure across the district; Tammy (HR benefits specialist) said she handles insurance, workers' compensation, FMLA and retirement questions; and Brandy, the substitute specialist, said she manages substitute hiring.
The district emphasized an open-door approach: "Please call us, email us, come by anytime. We're here for you," HR staff said. The orientation encouraged new teachers to raise questions early and use HR as a central resource for employment, benefits and certification matters.
Next steps noted to attendees included reviewing HR materials provided at orientation and following up with named contacts for specific issues such as benefits or substitute coverage.
